Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

When you use Mission Nihongo, including the Mission Nihongo website and the Mission Nihongo Card app, we may collect the following information:

  • Email address and account identifiers.
  • Google account profile information such as name, profile picture, and OAuth identifier when you sign in with Google.
  • Email verification status when you sign in with email OTP.
  • Payment and subscription metadata from Stripe, such as customer id, checkout session id, plan, subscription status, renewal period, coupon, and payment status. We do not store full card numbers.
  • Video learning activity, including which lessons you access and related progress information.
  • Mission Nihongo Card activity, including onboarding choices, digital card collection, pack openings, quiz sessions, answers, scores, XP, streaks, mastery, and progress sync data.
  • Device, browser, country or approximate region, logs, error reports, security events, and usage information.
  • Marketing attribution data such as UTM parameters, referral sources, landing pages, and campaign performance information.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide accounts, authentication, video access, card app access, and progress sync.
  • Process payments, manage subscriptions, apply coupons, and provide billing support.
  • Save learning progress, card collections, quiz history, XP, streaks, and mastery data.
  • Respond to support requests and communicate about your account or purchases.
  • Prevent fraud, abuse, scraping, bot traffic, payment bypass, and entitlement manipulation.
  • Monitor reliability, debug errors, improve product quality, and understand usage patterns.
  • Measure marketing performance and improve public landing pages.
  • Comply with legal, tax, accounting, security, and platform obligations.

3. Third-Party Services

We use third-party providers to operate Mission Nihongo. These providers process data according to their own terms and privacy policies:

  • Supabase - Authentication, database, user profiles, progress sync, and security-related records.
  • Stripe - Payments, checkout, subscriptions, coupons, invoices, receipts, and billing portal services.
  • Google OAuth - Google sign-in and account profile information when you choose Google sign-in.
  • Vercel - Hosting, deployment, edge routing, performance, and request logs.
  • Vimeo - Video hosting and streaming for Mission Nihongo lesson content.
  • Analytics providers - Website and product analytics, where enabled, to understand traffic and product usage.

4. Cookies and Browser Storage

We use cookies, local storage, and similar browser technologies for:

  • Authentication sessions and account security.
  • Purchase claim tokens and checkout recovery.
  • Card app local progress, onboarding state, preferences, and audio settings.
  • Analytics, attribution, and product reliability.

You can disable cookies or clear browser storage through your browser settings, but some parts of the Service may stop working correctly.

5. Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with service providers that help us run the Service, with payment and platform providers as needed to complete transactions, when required by law, or when necessary to protect users, rights, security, and the integrity of the Service.

6. Data Retention

We retain account, purchase, subscription, and durable learning progress records for as long as needed to provide the Service, support your account, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Operational logs, analytics, and quiz/session records may be retained for shorter periods based on product, security, and analytics needs.

7. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information. Payment card details are handled by Stripe. Authentication and database services are managed through Supabase. No online service can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection regarding your personal information. To make a request, contact support@missionnihongo.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

9. Children

Mission Nihongo is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

10. International Use

Mission Nihongo is operated from Japan and uses service providers that may process information in other countries. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be processed in locations outside your country of residence.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
